Cerium Oxide - CeO2 - (111) Slotted Stick Substrates

The CeO2 substrate shown as the upper substrate measures 2 mm x 4.5 mm.  Thickness is 1.2 mm.
Substrates are black color.

Each end has been slotted with a 1/2 mm wide by 1/2mm deep slot which is to serve as a means of holding the substrate while in the vacuum chamber or characterization instrument.

Both these CeO2 crystals have surface decorations in the form of micro-fissures and pits which are a function of the bulk crystal and not the polishing technique.  In between such surface decorations EPI surfaces do exist and users have found that useful and valuable research can be performed despite these decorations.

Laue photos of these crystals show very clear and distinct reflections.  Grid paper lines have 1 mm spacing.
